I used to think that of all the famous people I ever wanted to meet, I had a very slight chance of ever meeting any of them. Why? I didn't know it at the time but it was because I never really believed I could! Why would they want to meet me? Well I'm 48 now and I've never met any of them and some have now sadly passed away. But sometimes you get a second chance (In my case, be part of my son's First chance). So this is his story and lets say my part in the whole thing was just making up for past mistakes when it comes to following through with the plan. The event was the Tyler Ward gig at Kulturhuset in Stockholm on the 9th of March 2012, my son James is a huge Tyler Ward fan. We made a deal and I honoured it. The plan was as follows: Dad: Buy gig and plane tickets online early and save cash for epic trip and meet Tyler Ward (at all costs.) Son: Get good grades in the mocks and keep your head low. (and trust your old man). So we get to Sweden, everything's going to plan so far. Eat a bit , freeze a bit, sleep a bit, freeze a bit more, get up a bit, freeze a bit more, shop a bit and then show time! After all that we got in the queue outside Kulturhuset (full of young freezing Swedish couples) all eager to see the new internet sensation that is Tyler Ward. All the time I'm telling James “Can't wait to meet Tyler,” to which James would reply “No chance,” or “you and that Universe stuff.” From my many years as a musician I knew the person we needed to talk to was called the Floor Manager. I approached one of the people working there and asked to speak to the floor manager and to my delight I was introduced to Daniel, who turned out to be quite a guy, thank you Dan so much. I explained to Daniel that we had traveled all the way from Ireland to see Tyler and if he'd be so good as to give him our business card, adding that we'd very much like to meet Tyler if it was at all possible, to which Daniel replied; “I'll ask but he may not come out after the gig.” (due to the large amount of screaming girl power about) I explained our mission a bit more to Daniel and assured him that Tyler would love to meet us. “Just please give him the business card.” Traveling artists always have their fingers on the pulse, the Blackberry was sure to be backstage and this was an opportunity to publicise Heros that we had to take. That's the belief YOU have to have if YOU want the Universe to turn for YOU.
20 or so minutes into Nick's set I get a tap on the shoulder (we were up on the balcony with our Irish flag, hard to miss.) I turn around and its Daniel, our very nice floor Manager. He called me out of the crowd and gave me a poster of Tyler and said “He will see you after the venue is cleared, shhhh, just be prepared to wait til all the people have left.” When James asked; 'What did he want Dad, I just handed him the poster saying “he gave me this for YOU.” It wasn't time to let the secret out just yet. The next hour was so exciting as every time I looked over at my Son during that gig I knew something wonderful was to happen to him so soon and that it was going to be epic. About 40 minutes later it was time for the main event. Tyler was like a live wire on the stage, performing his original tunes and for the first time with a live band as Tyler was more accustomed playing small acoustic gigs with just the power of his voice and his guitar. He spoke about how he never would have thought he could be in Europe let alone be playing his music to such huge, appreciative audiences. For those of you who do not know about Tyler Ward's music please go and watch his videos. He is a hard working young artist with lots to sing about and a great way of doing it live with his band. Please go visit him at http://www.tylerwardmusic.com/ Gig over and Nick Howard is busy signing his latest CD called When the Lights Go Up and the young Swedish Boyfriends are lining up to buy Tyler T-shirts for their now swooning overwhelmed girlfriends. James queued up too to get a picture with Nick and I had no problem coughing up for a copy of his work. We spoke for a bit and he said “I noticed the Irish flag during the gig,” (being the only flag there) and there was no mistaking where we were from. Heros has made a friend for life in Nick Howard. James has friends in Sweden who were at the gig too. They were of the same opinion as him, that we were never going to meet Tyler (even Nick had his doubts as he knew how Tyler does leave the ladies “all in a swoon,” Meanwhile I was about to burst because I was still guarding the secret known only to Daniel and I. About 45 minutes flitted by, James had said goodbye to his friends and all the Swedish couples had gone, gig officially over then. Stage broken down, equipment moved from backstage to side exit. The only people remaining were some Security staff and Daniel making sure the exits were clear for Tyler's impending getaway. Then the stage door opened and an image I will never forget was burned into my mind. Tyler appeared as a silhouette with his guitar. I whispered to James “here he comes.” You should have seen my Son's face. mastercard can't buy this kinda stuff, for this you need dads and the power of the Universe.
The Ireland Flag, a present for Tyler Ward. He said afterwards from http://www.facebook.com/TylerWardMusic: Good times in Sweden! Thank you for spending your Friday night with us, it was so much fun! (feel free to tag yourself in this photo if you were at the show.) But by the time the gig was over the people tagging themselves had reached the Facebook limit of 50 and we couldn't do it, but he did a lot better for us. "Why not show our viewers some tasty guitar work?" we said. Well here are two amazing tunes that we've been listening to. Enjoy Walk Off the Earth is a Canadian indie band who have pushed the envelope of what can be done with one guitar. The video of their cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" featuring The Creepshow's Sarah Blackwood became rapidly popular on YouTube in early 2012, gathering over 50 million views in a single month and its up to 80 million one one single video this month. We heard that this version with the five people on one guitar was originally debuted at the 2011 Splendour in the Grass festival. MeghantheMetalQueen is a metal queen from Arkansas in America. She's in a band called Poisonwood. Poisonwood are, well... fairly good but Meghan is a terrific player and she wrote this herself. Feel free to tell us what rocks for you this month in the comment box below. Its our birthday! 01/27/2012
We at vostokpsm.ru are proud to announce that we have been on the internet for one full year, or twelve months if you like, or three hundred and sixty five days, or eight thousand, seven hundred and sixty five hours, or five hundred and twenty five thousand, nine hundred and forty eight minutes, or thirty one million, five hundred and fifty six thousand, nine hundred and twenty six seconds. Whichever you prefer. :P In that time we've learned a lot about website management, posted over 500 songs (and counting) in our lyrics and chords section, and made a lot of new friends. We learned about 432Hz. We're teaching in St Caimin's Community School in Shannon and have met lots of nice people in first year and in the Leaving Cert Applied classes. Education rocks! We had some great fun events while in cahoots with The B3 Project, The Southhill Area Centre, Clare Youth Service, and The Skycourt Shopping Centre. Thanks to all who attended Below is a graphical representation of our page views since the site first went live on the web. We made this to show the most important component of the Heros Guitar School empire, the visitors (you guys). We want to thank you all for your visits, requests, and kind comments. Keep them coming in 2012 and be prepared for some developments on the site and in Shannon and the surrounding area. Thank you so much for supporting us, we love you all. Hannah Crampton (Class of 2009) along with her classmates from St. Conaire's National School, Shannon, Co Clare The power of music and love in action...... please like this video, please. Swive & Simon More about the project from irishaid.gov.ie: Irish Aid is the Government’s programme of assistance to developing countries. Through Irish Aid, the people of Ireland support development work in over 90 countries. For the past seven years Irish Aid has run the Our World Irish Aid Awards for primary schools in Ireland. The overall purpose of the programme is to raise awareness among Irish pupils of the lives of children and their families in developing countries. By taking part, children can learn how Ireland works with these countries as partners for development. The pupils come up with their own ideas for submissions which can be presented in any medium (art, audio, video, text, etc.) The Awards culminate in an awards day in Dublin where a national panel of judges selects the best entries from schools countrywide. This year there will be a fantastic final event in Dublin Castle, where the creators of the winning entries will be invited to attend and receive an award and will find out which school will receive the Our World Irish Aid Awards trophy! Click here to go directly to the youtube video to like, subscribe and add to your favourites. (but then come back to us) Why not? Its a good cause. Note: We are aware that some among you might point out that since Hannah is a young woman she should be called a heroine, not a hero as we have called her here. But we're very in favour of feminism here so if someone is a person who is admired for courage or noble qualities, we at Heros will call them a hero. Well done Hannah and friends. We want to give shouts out to two people. If you're in Shannon or you can get there, and you want to learn how to bang drums (or anything) nicely, Emmett Harrigan is an excellent teacher and you should hire him. We know how good he is, he's a graduate of Heros Guitar School. And our very good friend Martina Linn has been getting a load of hits this week on her video and we hope (with your help) she'll get a lot more. See her on Facebook, Youtube or Myspace Also we'd like to apologize (again) about the delay posting lyrics and chords. Its a problem with embedit.in We always send them a bunch of mails and the files usually go through on their own, but not when we want them to. We're searching through the Heros Guitar School Marketing and Public Relations Handbook for answers as you read this and anybody who has requested lyrics and chords will eventually get them.
